West Point Iowa

West Point is in northern Lee county in the extreme south east corner of Iowa.
(Location: 40° 42' 54" N., 91° 26' 23" W)
It is a farming community founded by German settlers around 1834.
The town was incorporated in 1845

Central Park

Every year this little town has a Sweet Corn Festival which brings hundreds of visitors.
Tons of sweet corn are shucked the Wednesday before the festivities by over a hundred volunteers.

West Point was the site of the First Lee County Court House in 1841.
It has the oldest Presbyterian church in Iowa, organized June 24,
1837, the first brick church building in Iowa. The first Catholic
Church was organized in 1842 and the frame Church began the same
year. The brick church building was built in 1858. Holy Trinity
School serves the Ft Madison, West Point, St Paul and Houghton,
Iowa area.

West Point has a new library and museum, completed in 2004,
a new fire station, a new sewage plant, has rebuilt it's
water system and is supplied from a 500,000 gallon tower north of the city,
which is owned by The Rathbun Rural Water Association.
There are 3 parks, also has a county park, Pollmiller Park, with a lake and beach.
Most streets are paved and the city is served by 2 Lee County highways.

The city has bought additional land to expand the city.
The elevation at the town square is 764 feet above sea level.
